Kalamullah Ramli -nicknamed Muli- is a Professor on Computer Engineering since
July 1, 2009. He finished his Masters in Telecommunication Engineering at
University of Wollongong, NSW, Australia, in 1997. He then continued his
Doktorarbeit on Computer Networks in year 2000 at Universitaet Duisburg-Essen,
NRW, Germany, and obtained his Dr.-Ing. in year 2003. He has been with
Universitas Indonesia (UI) since 1994.

He is now responsible for undergraduate and postgraduate courses such as
Embedded System, High-Speed Networks, Broadband Communications, Object Oriented
Programming, Database System, and Engineering & Entrepreneurship. In addition in
each academic semester he normally supervises around 7 (seven) undergraduate
students' final project, 3 (three) master's thesis, and 5 (five) Ph. D students.
His research interests include embedded system, computer and communications, and
mobile applications. He has published around 50 (fifty) journal/conference
papers and wrote 4 (four) books.

At University level he has experiences as the Vice Head Department of Electrical
Engineering Department on 1998 - 2000 period, Head of Faculty of Engineering's
Computing Center (2004 - 2008), IT Manager of Engineering Center - Universitas
Indonesia (2006 - 2007), and now as the Director of Join Venture Affairs of the
Department of Eletrical Engineering. He is also the chairman of Pendayagunaan
Open Source Software - Universitas Indonesia (POSS-UI), which is a common
initiative between Universitas Indonesia and Ministry of Research and Technology
of the Republic of Indonesia.

At National Level he is very active in assisting the Directorate General of
Higher Education of the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of
Indonesia as Jury and Reviewer of Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM) or
Students Creativity Competition Program between 2005 - 2008, Reviewer of Hibah
Kemitraan Industri - Pemda - Perguruan Tinggi (Hi-Link, Higher Education Link
Grant) between 2005 - 2009, Reviewer Penelitian Unggulan Strategis Nasional or
PUSNAS (National Strategic and Advanced Research Grant) since 2009 and, last,
Reviewer of Riset Andalan Perguruan Tinggi dan Industri or RAPID (Joined
Industry and University Advance Research Scheme). He continuously acts as Jury
of Indonesia Robot and Smart Robot Contest managed by this Directorate since
2004 up to now. He assists also Directorate of Citizenship Administration of
Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia as technical expert.
In addition he sits now as one of the Jury Committee for the Indonesia ICT Award
(INAICTA) under the Directorate of Telematic Applications of the Ministry of
Communications and Information Technology of the Republic of Indonesia since
2008.

At International Level he was awarded AusAid (Australian Agency for
International Development) scholarship for his masters degree in Australia (1995
- 1997) and held DAAD (German Academic Exchange Services) scholarship for his
Doktorarbeit in Germany (2000 - 2003). Returning from Doktor degree, through his
collaboration with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel Hunger, a Multimedia Lab with total cost
of EUR 150,000,- was awarded by Gerhard Mercator Stiftung - Germany. This lab is
named "UI-UDE Gerhad Mercator Multimedia Lab" and is located at the Engineerin
Center Building room 323.

Moreover he -together with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel Hunger of UDE, Germany and Prof.
Dr. Abdul Halim Shamsuddin of UKM Malaysia- has initiated international academic
proposals and obtained several funding schemes from DAAD. This includes
"German-Indonesia-Malaysia (GIM) Summerschools" which were consecutively
conducted yearly in Duisburg, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur between 2001 - 2005, and
"Islam and Engineering Workshop" in Duisburg Germany in 2003.

His collaboration work with Universities from German, Italy and Malaysia
continues. This collaboration is then awarded "AsiaLink" grant from the European
Comission between 2005 - 2007 to deliver an initiative named "Improving Mobility
of Student between Europe and ASEAN" which resulted in a prototype model of
Credit Transfer System Platform between ASEAN and Europe. Based on this
experience he was elected as one of the speaker on ASAIHL Conference on December
2008 in Jakarta. This ASAIHL is managed by ASEAN Universities to implement a
platform for Credit Transfer System between Universities in ASEAN.

In 2008 - 2009 he was awarded two grants from USAID (United States Agency for
International Development) through SENADA for two proposals, namely Industry
Attachment Program (IAP) and Rural Internet Centers (RIC). IAP manages together
with Cisco Indonesia to put ICT students in 25 (twenty-five) Usaha Kecil dan
Menengah, or UKM (Small and Medium Enterprises, SMEs) to help theses SMEs
increasing their digital knowledge and applications in order to improve their
competitiveness in the busines field. RIC, at the same time, aimed at becoming a
model of bridging digital divide at rural area. This scheme facilitates and
educates Pesantrens as the center of digital development and education, to
reduce asymmetric information suffered now by most of Indonesia's rural area.

He maintains closed linkages with industries and local governments to improve
further Universitas Indonesia excellent contributions to broader communities. He
